FAQ – Packing List

This list is meant to guide you about what to bring, and also what not to bring. Important rule: You pack it in, you pack it out – our trash capacities are very limited! We also try to avoid waste whereever possible, and encourage you to do the same.

Can I bring my own food?

In principle, it is possible to bring your own food; however, the daily rate for Hof Oberlethe for food (3 meals) and the use of the entire festival grounds must still be paid, since it is not possible for us to make special arrangements or exceptions.

Cups and Mugs

As in the previous years, we ask you to please bring your own cup or mug – the more colorful the better! Adhesive tape and sharpies to label your cup will be provided. If necessary, you can buy a mug for € 1 from Hof Oberlethe.

MP3 players, iPods and mobile phones for LIVE translation:

All events will be held in German or English with simultaneous translation into the respective other language.

Please bring an FM radio receiver with headphones to listen to the translation (as a hint, most MP3 players, iPods and many mobile phones have an FM radio feature, but not  iPhones!). We recommend high quality-devices.

Please bear in mind to bring a sufficient number of batteries. (Charging is difficult!)

It will also be possible to buy a FM radio receiver on site for 20 Euro.

Old cell phone, ipad or notebook

Do you have an old cell phone, ipad or notebook which you no longer need? Bring it to the Celebrate Life Festival 2019! In cooperation with the Global Ecovillage Network, we will redistribute it to community leaders for sustainable change in the Global South. Parent letter for CHILD CARE

For child care: Child care is offered daily for children aged 3-4  or more (depending on how mature the children are)) from 10 am to 1.30 pm in the morning and  from 6 pm to 7 pm in the afternoon during the toning, which is free of charge. Donations are gladly accepted and will be handed over in their entirety to the Pocket Project .

 Important:In order to estimate the size of the group, it is advisable to register by 15 July.

 If you register at short notice, we cannot guarantee a place.

Babies: An open space in a barn directly next to the great hall has been set up for parents with small children who cannot be or stay at the events. An audio feed ensures that the events can be listened to there. The children can lie in the shade or play in the barn.

Youths: There is a youth camp during the entire Festival which has two tents of its own. Numerous activities are offered for youths from the ages of approximately 8 to 13, as well as a very active youth group for all 14- to 24-year olds. The exact categorization will take place on location collaboratively with the persons in charge.

Other

Personal comfort: If you have special wishes regarding comfort (meditation bench or pillow, additional blankets, hot water bottles, etc.), bring what you need.

We suggest you pack:

  • flip-flops

  • rain gear and umbrella
  • flashlight
  • alarm clock
  • extra towels for swimming or Sauna
  • bathing suit
  • loose clothing or dancewear for daily open classes
  • insect repellent
  • ear pacx
  • yoga mat

What should I NOT bring with me?

We ask you to refrain from the following:

  • Pets
  • Alcohol
  • Glass bottles
  • Recreational drugs
  • Candles

FAQ – GENERAL

Please note that this is a non-alcoholic and drug-free festival and that the evening events will remain non-alcoholic and drug-free for all visitors and guests.

What is the sequence for registering for the festival?

For the Celebrate Life Festival 2019, each participant needs a festival ticket for the duration of his / her stay AND must separately register with our venue Hof Oberlethe. Festival ticket can be purchased for one module, for several modules or for the entire time of the festival. Please visit the registration page for more information.

Can I book individual days?

No. As in previous years, the festival consists of three modules around aspects of the festival’s main topic that build upon each other. Since we wish to engage fully with each aspect, individual days cannot be booked. Some of the evening events (dance events and concerts) are an exception – for 6 Euro – payable cash at the door.

You can leave earlier if you can not stay, but than you need to purchase full ticket for the module that you will be not able to participate fully in.

Please note, that the evening events are also alcohol- and drug-free events.

When should I arrive? How do I check in?

On the opening day Friday, 26 July, the check-in will be open

2pm – 5.15pm and

6.30pm – 9.30 pm

Saturday morning, 27 July from 8-10.00 am

Checkin open only the evening before or in the morning of the module start.

Evening before 5pm  – 8pm

morning of the module start 8.00am -10.00am

At all other times, counters will be closed and you will not be able to check in. Please refrain from asking for exceptions – they are extremely difficult to coordinate for our team.

Can I bring alcohol or beer to the festival?

No. Please note that the whole festival including the evening events are alcohol- and drug-free events.

What is the cost of a ticket?

Please click the button “Buy tickets” above to get the prices for the invididual tickets. For the festival, we offer full tickets, tickets for adults under 23 at 50% discount, and free tickets for children. You can buy tickets for individual modules or for the full festival at a 15% discount. Each ticket includes an additional contribuition of 2 Euro per day that we use to offset our carbon footprint. Also note that we grant a 10% early-mover discount until May 30, 2019 !

Are food and lodging included in the price of the ticket?

No. Food and lodging are not included in the festival ticket price. Hof Oberlethe offers a wide variety of accomodation options. All options include 3 meals a day. You can review lodging options here.

Can I self-cater during the Festival?

In principle, it is possible to bring your own food. However, the daily fee for Hof Oberlethe, which covers food (3 meals) and the use of the entire festival grounds must be paid in all cases.

Can I purchase a ticket at the event?

Yes. There is a guest PC on site that can be used to buy tickets should you decide to extend your stay. Please note that it is heavily frequented at times, leading to long wait times, and the registration counter opening hours are limited and inflexible. We strongly advise to purchase tickets and make housing arrangements before arrival whenever possible.

Does my child/baby also need a ticket?

Yes, you need a free ticket for children. Please add it when you purchase yours in our ticket shop,

Is it necessary to register for childcare?

In order for us to estimate the size of the group, please register by July 15. If you register at short notice, we cannot guarantee a place.

Is there child care available and/or activities especially for children?

Can I come with babies?

For parents with small children, who cannot be present/remain at the events in the main hall, an open barn space has been set up directly next to the hall. Liveaudio transmission makes it possible to listen to the events. The children can play there or rest in the shade.

In addition, this year “Transparents” is also providing a play and meeting room for the parents of the little ones (0 to 3 years), where there will also be an accompanied play room with a pickler expert in the afternoon.

Is there a special program for young people?

There is a youth camp with two tents during the entire festival. The camp includes special offers for all young people between 8 and 13 years of age and a separate youth group for all 14 to 20 year olds (the exact classification will be made on site with the supervisors). For both groups there are numerous offers and their own tent meeting points (link).

How do I purchase a ticket?

You need to purchase a festival ticket at our online ticket shop and separately register for accomodation and meals, as detailed on this page.

How do I make room reservations?

Room reservations are made with our venue Hof Oberlethe. Please visit our info page on them.

Do I need to stay on-site or can I stay off-site?

While we recommend that you stay on-site to immerse yourself in the festival and participate at the fullest extent possible, you can stay off-site. Please visit our page on the venue Hof Oberlethe  for information on options.

Are there electricity hook-ups for campers and tents?

NO

Should I bring a heater or fan?

July and August can become quite hot. You may wish to bring an old-fashioned hand-held fan. Electrical devices cannot be used in the halls.

Is it possible to rent bedding/linens?

Only a few on request and only for dormitory.

Can I bring my RV?

Yes, costs are the same as for a tent.

I have special dietary needs, can Hof Oberlethe accommodate this?

Hof Oberlethe offers vegetarian and vegan options at every meal, as well as nondairy, wheat-free, gluten-free, and soy-free options, which will be marked accordingly. For other special needs, please bring what you need.

Do you provide shuttle services?

Will the event be mostly outside or inside?

Most of the event programming will take place inside, but you will certainly have opportunities to explore Hof Oberlethe’s beautiful land. 

What can I expect on arrival at Hof Oberlethe ?

Arrival by car – Parking
Parking is available on the property. However, these are unpaved lawns that can become soft. We ask you not to use your car during the festival, unless you absolutely have to.

Check in
Please plan your arrival so that it coincides with the opening hours of the check-in counters (see separate FAQ entry for details). If this is not possible, you may want to stay at the “Café am See” if you are hungry, but you will only be able to participate in festival activities or meals after checking in. If you need to set up a tent, you can do so before checking in. Checking-in is a two-step process: First you check in at the festival counter with your printed festival ticket (alternatively you can use the Evenbrite smartphone app), then you are sent to the accommodation desk to check in for accommodation and meals.

Late arrival
Do your best to get here in time. We acknowledge that this is not always possible due to unforeseen circumstances. If you arrive after the opening hours of the check-in counter, please contact the staff at Oberlethe Farm. We will try to check you in for the festival, but please understand that this is not possible in all cases without delay or until the next opening hours of the festival check-in. Participation in the festival during an ongoing module is not possible in any case.

 

Is parking at Hof Oberlethe free?

There is parking at the site, and there are no fees in addition to your venue registration. However, it is unpaved grassy grounds, which may get soft. We ask that you do not use your car during the festival unless you positively have to.

Is Hof Oberlethe wheelchair accessible?

Not generally, but most sections are accessible, including all indoor event locations. The paths to and around the lake are unpaved and may get soft during wet weather. Please make sure you book your room early for ground-floor access.

What is the departure procedure for Hof Oberlethe?

Departure
Departure (Checkout) rooms is 10am on the last day – August 4. Please honor the check-out time so our housekeeping staff can have sufficient time to prepare the rooms for newly arriving guests.

Check-Out Time is 3 p.m for everybody in dorms or tent area on Sunday, August 4.

 

Are there volunteer opportunities in exchange for a discount of the ticket price?

Yes, we do depend on our enthusiastic volunteers. and some options carry discounted tickets. Please visit this page to explore currently offered volunteer positions.

What do the proceeds of this festival support?

The festival contributions that are received are used to cover the entire costs for organizing the Festival. Should there be a surplus after all the costs are deducted, it will be partly put aside to pre-finance next year’s Celebrate Life Festival, just as this year’s Festival was pre-financed with the surplus from last year. Any further surplus will be made available to the non-profit project The Pocket Project.. You can also make individual donations directly on their website here

Do you accept financial contributions to support the Festival?

We invite you to support the Celebrate Life Festival by making a financial gift of any size to help to cover the production costs of the Festival. All surplus from this year’s Festival will benefit The Pocket Project.

Contact us for more information about making a larger gift. For smaller donations, you can also use the Donation ticket on our ticket shop or the Donation Box in the main hall.

How do I picture a festival of this size?

A well-developed infrastructure ensures a smooth flow during meals and also guarantees that there are sufficient sanitary facilities. The warm food that is served – especially at lunch time – is partly organic and, to the extent possible, from local farmers.

What is the festival language and is there translation?

Most events will be held in German, with simultaneous translation (or vice versa). Please bring a FM radio receiver with headphones (integrated into most mp3 players, ipods and cell phones – not Apple cell phones). Please bring a sufficient supply of batteries!

It will also be possible to buy a FM radio receiver on site for 20 Euro.

Will the festival be recorded?

The programming in the main hall will be recorded, but not the satellite events in other locations. Video and Audio recordings may be purchased separately on site and at our online ticket shop, respectively (use the “Buy Tickets” button above). If you do not wish to be on camera, please seat yourself in the clearly marked no-camera section in the main hall.

Can I take pictures?

You can take nature pictures, but we do not allow pictures with participants to protect their privacy.

Do you have laundry facilities?

Yes. There is one self-service washing machine and some clothesline. Please contact staff from Hof Oberlethe.

Is the lake water OK to swim?

The lake does not have natural inflow, so the water is muddy and not safe for drinking. Many guests do swim at their own risk.Parents are liable for their children!

Can I pre-pay at the Cafe at the Lake?

Yes! Kila and their friendly staff will register a notecard for you to keep a tally. You can top off any time.
